County Clerk H. M. Pettit died Tuesday after a brief illness in Hamilton General Hospital. Pettit, in his mid sixties, was a respected Acton public servant who served as Reeve of Nelson Township and held various roles including clerk treasurer of Tinston and Justice of the Peace. He was active in farming and the Royal Winter Fair, and served as fair judge here. funeral arrangements were set for this afternoon with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, Burlington. Pettit is survived by his widow Mary Robertson and two sons Murray and William.

Motorcycle and Car Crash Near Acton Injures Two
Two New Hamburg youths escaped serious injury when a motorcycle collided with a Toronto car on the Guelph Toronto highway four miles west of Acton. Alvin Pall, driver, was pulled under the other vehicle while Lloyd Baker was thrown into a roadside ditch. both were taken to Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries. Police say the motorcycle slowed while attempting to pass, flipped onto its side, and damaged the bike's bars and fuel tank.
