Dominion election yields few changes as King loses Prince Albert seat

In Canada the June Dominion general election brought only four constituency changes. Prime Minister Mackenzie King, seeking a fourth term, was defeated in Prince Albert by E. Bowerman of the CCF by 129 votes after a combined civilian and advisory vote. The Liberal gain remained modest while the Progressive Conservatives and CCF each moved one seat. Ottawa foresees a possible federal provincial conference to renegotiate relations, with committees to begin laying groundwork. A Pacific army planning drive led by Maj General Bert Hoffmeister was announced, with training and deployment details outlined across Camp Shilo, Brockville, Barriefield, and Debert. The caterpillar plague warning extended from the Maritimes to Edmonton and westward.
