In baseball circles a quiet week precedes a busier period ahead. The ladies team beat Georgetown 11 to 4 after a snappy match, while Acton faced a tough defense to contain Georgetown. Also memorials for Mrs Hall a long time Acton resident connected to the Orange Order who died after pneumonia with a large family surviving and a funeral led by Rev Haugh.
A huge frame barn on Mfr W V Hopkins fruit farm at Guelph Road Nelson township known as Honnla Place burned Wednesday evening in a fire of unknown origin. Estimated loss around 310,000 with insurance. Fire department from Warrington responded swiftly but the flames and smoke heavily damaged the structure and adjacent buildings. Several hay stacks and fruit containers were destroyed while workers attempted to cave incidences. Mr Hopkins fled home to his residence on the farm as the blaze raged surrounding properties.
Hubert Mouse of Cataract faced Police Magistrate Moore last Wednesday afternoon charged with stealing a dwelling in Erin on May 13. The evidence showed Mouse planned the theft and the court found the charge proven. He was fined 0 and sentenced to six months in jail at hard labor.
