Royal Visit Brings Mixed Feelings to Acton District
The 3,000 to 4,000 Acton residents waited for a glimpse of King and Queen as their Royal Train paused fifteen minutes at Acton. Many school children viewed the royals in Guelph while Acton crowds at the station faced disappointment. Local volunteers, Legion members, the Lorne Scots platoon and the Citizens Band organized a festive reception but weathered delays and limited access as the royal couple continued toward Toronto.

At the Acton Public School Board meeting Tuesday Miss M L Bennett resigned as principal of Acton Public School after a long and noted career. The board expressed deep regret and appreciation for her service as they discussed continued school painting and plans for the Victorian Order of Nurses survey. A committee was named to meet the Victorian Order representative and the secretary was told to arrange cleaning and maintenance during holidays.

Township Council Votes on Road Tender and School Area Formation
Nassagaweya Township Council met with all members present and the Reeve presiding. The tender for crushed stone from Frank and Turner at 78 per cubic yard was accepted pending Department of Highways approval. The council organized as a Court of Revision handling 1939 assessment appeals and approved several payments including relief and road expenses. A by law forming a Township School Area was passed at the request of several school sections and takes effect at year start. Council to meet June 29 at 7 30 PM.

The Eramosa Township Council met as Court of Revision at Rockwood Town Hall. Appeals by Wilfred Curtis Elgin Hamilton and Joseph Oakes were heard and assessor figures confirmed. By Law No 6 to close shops at 7 pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings was adopted. Junior Plowing Match Held at Drumquin
The annual Junior Plowing Match for under 20s, sponsored by the Halton Plowmen's Association, took place on the farm of W. Alderson near Drumquin. Fewer competitors due to late season and dry soil, yet strong ridges were plowed. Official coach and judge was N. G. McLeod of Galt. Winners included Nassagaweya Ivan Taylor and others. Taylor also plowed the champion ridge of the day.
