Waldie D. M. Dies. Longtime Area Resident Remembered
Respected citizen Donald MacGregor Waldie died Sunday July 15 at Guelph General Hospital after eight days illness. Son of Alexander Waldie and Margaret MacGregor, he lived 44 years on the second line and was active despite declining health. Born 1772 on the old family homestead, he lived in Glen Williams before moving to the second line in 1907.

Haltonville Couple Marks 56th Wedding Anniversary
Ted Britton of Haltonville and his wife celebrated their 56th anniversary on July 16. Married in Georgetown in 1895, they lived 43 years on a 100 acre farm and later resided in Haltonville before moving to the village last November. They have eight living children: Willard in Acton, Lina Padbury in Rockwood, Ted Boynton in Toronto, Edna Anderson in Toronto, Letina Herd in Long Branch, Jim in Acton, Glen in Haltonville, Verna Mullen in Haltonville, with a daughter Jean deceased.

Acton Scouts Collect Record 13,500 Pounds of Paper
Acton Boy Scouts and Cubs gathered 13,500 pounds of scrap paper from homes across town last Saturday, weighing six and three quarter tons. About 20 scouts aided the effort, with trucks borrowed from Johnny Gay Ajat Engineering and Jack Holmes to transport two loads to Guelph. The previous record was five and a half tons.

New Truck Rolls Down Hill Collides With Car
On June 20 a light pickup from John Ferguson, Hillsborough, collided with a 1849 Meteor driven by Howard Winters in Georgetown. The pickup caught fire but was minimally damaged. Winters’s car sustained major damage. Erin Fire Brigade contained the blaze.

Truck Leaves Road Hits Parked Car On No 7 Highway
Lyle Croucher of Gravenhurst lost control of a gravel truck owned by F. Carson and Son last week. He drove off the roadway near No 7 highway at Silvercreek and struck a parked Norton car, causing about 500 in damage to the parked vehicle and minor damage to the truck. No injuries reported.
