Acton defeats league leaders Oakville 3-2 in a dramatic late game on the diamond. Ryder hurled for Acton with strong defense and timely hits from Kentner Waterhouse and Masters spark the win. Oakville, delayed and hampered by injuries, falls for the first time to Acton this season.
A six day Daily Vacation Bible School conducted by Rev O R Flindall and Mrs Flindall at Churchill United Church July 10 to 18 trained 29 pupils in primary junior and senior classes. Sessions ran 9 to 1130 am with devotional services and visual learning. Recess treats and a closing program with parent attendance honored leaders with gifts.
The Free Press observes a newspaper holiday from July 26 to August 5 with no issue on July 31. The office closes Saturday July 26 and reopens Thursday August 5. No mail delivery of the issue during the holiday week. readers urged to expect delayed delivery and early copies as in prior holidays.
Four held in Halton County Jail two men and two women while two suspects Leo Brunnel and Garth Dusty Miller are sought by Ontario Provincial Police for a bank robbery totaling 105000. Warrants issued and posters circulated across Hamilton Toronto Brantford and St. Catharines. Bail, if granted, set at 10000 cash or two sureties for John Krycharchuck. others seek delays and continued custody. Material witness Elsie Nash released on bond. Dorothy Smythe remanded.
The new Midway for Caradian National Exhibition visitors features many permanent buildings in the amusement area and streamlined structures. The Midway will blend recreation and education with its usual mix.
William Drow, 16, of Acton pleaded guilty to taking a truck owned by Albert Louttit last Saturday night. Magistrate Thomas H. Moorehead sentenced him to three months in jail. Drow was arrested Monday on Highway 7 after fueling the vehicle and charging it to the owner. He had been placed on probation for a year for stealing $20 from Kenneth Allan’s pay envelope last May 3, with weekly payments to Chief Harrop for court costs and restitution.
A young woman from Acton England requests a pen friend in Acton Ontario, age 22, to correspond. Interested residents can apply at the Free Press office for name and address.
Acton Triple A juniors snapped a losing skid with a 12 to 4 victory over Georgetown on Saturday. The Acton bats surged with nine runs in the sixth inning after Georgetown led 4-1, while Mowat struck out eight for Acton and Gibbs started for Georgetown before Anderson finished.
In the shortest Industrial League game of the season, the Yannery team beat Fores Electric 9 to 7 in the ninth inning Monday night. Locala delivered the decisive runs with two out in the bottom of the ninth as Electric led by three. The Forces turned three double plays but Laval led 26 to 7 in hits for Yannery.
Katheleen Avis Campbell and Edward Hansen wed in a double ring ceremony at Trinity College Chapel last Saturday. The bride wore ivory satin with red rose bouquet. attendants wore pink and blue gowns. The couple will reside in Acton after a reception at The Old Mill and a garden greeting by family.
At noon today at the corner of Elgin and Church Street two cars collided. Mrs A Harris of Church Street and Mr McVeigh of Toronto were the drivers. No injuries reported. Damage noted to the Toronto vehicle on the right side and to the Acton car's left front fender headlight radiator and bumper. Chief Harrop investigated.
Frank Heece, 10, and George Firth, 17, both of Hamilton, had charges reduced to taking care without consent. They faced one year in prison, with orders to repay repair costs, after pleading guilty to the reduced charge before Magistrate Moorehead. Carl Rablin, 18, of Hankson, received one year concurrently with a two year Kingston Penitentiary sentence for theft. A third theft charge was withdrawn.

Garden Party July 31 at Arisburg Park with Hillsburg Band program and variety acts. Admission adults 50c, children 20c.
