Air Force Veteran Loses Sight After Ontario Train Wreck
John Henry a 26 year old Campbellville veteran and former RCAF leading aircraftsman lost both eyes in a March 1945 train wreck at Zorra Ontario. He was treated at St Thomas R C L Hospital and Christie Street Hospital Toronto. One eye had been removed earlier and infection spread to the road his mother said. He is the couple’s only son.

John Krywiar chuck of Tambton was committed for trial on charges of robbing the Bank of Nova Scotian at Campbellville on July 8. Three gunmen took $105,000 in cash and securities, with $10,938 cash and $96,650 in bonds reported stolen. Garbage Collection Contract Awarded At Special Meeting
Acton Council met in special session to award the garbage collection contract for the year. Four tenders were received. the accepted bid from H W Palmer was $1450 with future increases tied to Wartime Housing subdivision occupancy. The rise will be pro rata as houses are occupied, and at full occupancy the increase reaches 150 over the 1850 tender. In 1941 the cost was under 1000.

Four Mile Stretch Of Highway 25 Under Construction
Work has begun on the four mile section of Highway 25 between Milton City Acton. Heavy machines are clearing brush and widening the road to improve visibility. The Elling Construction Company handles the project with an anticipated completion next year, and a month long road closure will necessitate a detour for a concession.
