County Proposes Hospital Grant Cuts Amid Debate
A motion to rescind the by law granting $6,000 per bed for new hospital additions drew strong discussion. The County Committee on Hospitals weighs lowering to $7,500 per bed with total grants around $4,000 from federal and provincial sources. Acton cautions policy shifts, noting the Ontario Hospital Association's five beds per 1,000 population target, while a Halton Hospital Association delegation presses for careful, need-based grants. The meeting featured pleas to end open-ended funding and ensure funds fit demonstrable need.
