Halton Junior Farmer Girls excel at CAC event
Halton County junior farmer girls from Acton and Palermo competed at the CAC Junior Farmers Day in Guelph Ontario on Friday June 23. The team defeated York and South Simcoe counties to reach the semi finals where Brock Ontario County won the final. Acton competitors included Betty Britton Elendar Britton Joan McKnight Jean Palmer Joan Somerville and Doreen Ferguson. Joan Somerville and Fyfe Somerville set sprint and standing broad jump marks and a running high jump record for Halton.

General sympathy poured in for Dr. Harold F. Mowat and Mrs. Mowat of Copper Cliff after their four year old son John Alan drowned at Whitefish Bay on Sunday. Funeral services were held at Johnstone and Rumley Funeral Home with Acton friends present. interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

A quiet Presbyterian Manse ceremony in Acton united Anna T M Irvin daughter of Mr and Mrs John B Irvin with Merrick J Nutting son of the late Mr and Mrs Frank Nutting of Darmville Quebec. Rev J M Anderson officiated. The bride wore powder blue with navy accessories and pink roses. Best man was Albert Irvin and bridesmaid was Albert’s sister. A buffet lunch followed at the bride’s parents home. The couple left for Banff and will reside in Hamilton upon return.

Rotary Fair Was Fine Dominion Day Event
The Rotary Club of Acton hosted its first Rotary Fair with a full day and night program. Acton won the afternoon softball playoff 5 0 against Everton while Milton beat Acton 6 5 in a league ball game reported in another column. A large crowd enjoyed bands, midway games, bingo, refreshment booths, and a park pavilion dance by the Orangeville Debonnaires, boosting funds for community service.

Landmark Sheds at United Church Sold and Being Removed
The sheds that sheltered farmer teams at the rear of the United Church are sold and torn down as automobility rises. Built around 1872 with the church, they declined with time and were prone to fires. The remaining big stone sheds at the Yages Presbyterian Church are partly demolished, freeing land for parking spaces.
