First Baptist Church of Acton Faces Long Founding Story
The record traces the church’s origins starting January 2 1842 at Samuel Worden’s home in Faguesing township with ten attendees. Rev John Oakley leads, meetings move between homes and Erin, plans form to build, and a succession of pastors follows including Rev Cook, Rev Hazelton, Rev Warren, Rev Henry Cox, and others. By 1896 erecting a new building is approved on a Steele gift deed of land at Mill and Willow, culminating in the church’s fiftieth anniversary with improvements, an electric organ, and ongoing ministry in Acton and Georgetown.
