W E Downs, Bandmaster of Brampton Citizens Band, retires to take a similar post in Renfrew. The group surprised him at Jas Algie’s home, presenting a handsome electric token as W M Reid read an address and E P Harmworth made the presentation.
Ontario prohibitionists meeting in Massey marked by a 1000 strong gathering approving a ten member committee to survey the province and push aggressive temperance candida es in the next election. Officers were elected and a pledge that candidates place temperance above party loyalty was urged to ensure victory.
A large Acton crowd welcomed Ye Olde Tyme Village Quartette from St. Clair United Church Toronto. The group led by Mr A Chapman included Miss Daisy La Rush McAdam, Miss Betty Thompson Mackensie, and Mr W H Norris with Mrs Chapman as accompanist. Performances featured old time songs, duets, Scottish numbers in costume, and a strong reciprocation from the audience. The Sunday School Orchestra opened, and a return engagement is being negotiated.
High School students showcased notable dramatic talent in the town hall performances of Hurry Hurry Hurry. The cast included Jack Crandall Covebay Author Charlene Kirkynega Arthur Henderson Stephen Hooker George Mason Ted Atone Franke Cook and others. Despite bad weather, dedicated audiences enjoyed a strong program with piano notes and a school chorus, praising the overall production.

A Georgetown police court heard a bootlegging case against Lewis E Atkinson a mail carrier after an Acton purchase. Officers used marked currency to trap him retrieving two moonshine bottles. Atkinson pleaded guilty selling liquor under the Ontario Temperance Act and got a 200 to 600 dollar fine with costs and a month’s hard labor. He admitted a year and half in the business and indicated a Guelf address for the source.
Reverend H G L Baugh formerly rector of St Alban's Acton and St John's Rockwood moves to Bartonville Parish. He has served over five years at Acton and helped educational and library initiatives. A farewell service will be held next Sunday as bishops' departure delays appointment of a successor.
