March of Dimes Origin and Ontario Foundation Work
The March of Dimes began in the 1930s by Eddie Cantor to combat infantile paralysis during the Depression. It evolved into the Rehabilitation Foundation for the Disabled in Ontario, aiding over 40 000 Marching Mothers volunteers and 22 medical advisory members. Through 10 offices it funds disabled assistance, including Operation Reliance Inc., and supports rehabilitation via case work, training, and small research efforts. Public collection by Acton’s Marching Mothers slated for January 31.
