Appointments Made at Acton Public Utilities Meeting
The Acton Public Utilities Commission held its bi monthly session on Monday with Reeve J M McDonald and Commissioners C M Hansen and J K MacArthur present. MacArthur named chairman and McDonald deputy chairman. Fred G Turner Jr named deputy treasurer with signing authority. A motion rescinding a prior authorization was approved. An account for tax collection costs totaling 550 was authorized for forwarding to the Municipal Council. Staff vacancies are filled and Robert Dixon will report January 16 as assistant to Mr Wilson. Regular meetings set for 1st and 3rd Mondays each month. Treasurer authorized to pay multiple company and service accounts including Ontario agencies, Bell Telephone, Express, advertising, and supplies.

Eramona Council Sets Roads Budget and Elects 1945 Officials
The Eramona Township Council passed a by law capping road and bridge expenditures at 1,000 for 1945, while approving police villages. At nominations on November 24 D D Gray was reelected reeve by acclamation, and on December 4 Roy Leslie became deputy reeve with Rutherford Bentam and Hutchinson as councillors. The meeting included oaths of office and prayers for the King, Canada, and the municipality. Council noted 53 sheep killed by wolves and 22 by dogs in 1944, with 102 Val Vanters and 5 for one dog killed paid under the Live Stock Protection Act. Total expenditure under the act was 1,070.20. Dog taxes totaled 670, and 35 was paid for killing a wolf on December 20. Reeve and clerk were instructed to apply for sub-officials, with changes: McCufcheon resigned as school attendance officer. Percy Peavy and inspector Wm Pinkney appointed as two offices. Milton Swanton named fence-viewer replacing Charles Young. Bylaw No 2 covered school and police village requirements to be presented by March 1, 1948. Bylaw No 3 authorized borrowing up to 20,000. and a loan of 38,000 from 1944 was confirmed. Interim auditors’ reports for 1944 were accepted. accounts total 31,454.12 and council adjourned to February 12.

Farm-Home Of Dr Paul Beer Destroyed by Fire
Fire destroyed the farm home of Dr Paul Beer on the Fifth Line of ququesing Township. Mrs Pop, inlaws of the owner, escaped through smoke and snow to warn neighbors as the blaze consumed the newly remodeled stucco building and its irreplaceable heirlooms. Two dogs perished in the fire. The cause is unknown and only partial insurance coverage was carried.

The Duke of Devonshire Chapter 1 O D E met at Mrs F S Blow home in December. They voted donations to several causes including Acton Public School calendars, Lucy Morrinson Memorial Fund, Naalk Hospital India Endowment Fund, Sailors and Mine sweepers Fund, Pollah Jtelief, Centre Service Halifax, Prisoners of War Fund, Navy League, Camp Libraries Fund, Coronation Bursary, Canada Tract Society. The chapter also decided to adopt a school. Mixes Bennett shared a Cape Cod and New England trip account, then lunch was served. January meeting at Mrs James Symon home with honorary regent Mrs W J Beatty presiding and nominations for executive offices. Mr J W Wolfe spoke on Interior Decoration. Lunch and a short rest closed the evening.
