Downs resigns from Brampton Citizens’ Band, moving to Renfrew with $1,200 salary and support for his sons.
Ottawa jan 13 guns boomed as Baron Byng opened Canada's fifteenth Parliament. The scene featured guards, gowns and formalities. The Speech from the Throne outlined tax cuts, public department consolidations, rural and urban repatriation goals, a tariff advisory board, and railway and resource measures. Prime issues include Hudson Bay Railway completion, a maritime rights inquiry, and tax policy favoring essentials and agriculture. Meighen led a confidence motion, with Progressives pivotal to the vote and government stability.
The Acton Free Library Board met Monday at 10 30 a m in the Police Magistrate Moore office. Rev H G L Baugh Rev A C Stewart John Cameron Reeve Mason H P Moore and H N Farmer were present. The chairman summarized the year, noted book withdrawals for younger patrons, and officers were elected with H N Farmer as Secretary Treasurer and Rev A G Stewart as Chairman. The board discussed a new library building and the Ontario Association Easter meeting appointment for the chairman.
Willie Merchant a 41 year old newspaper delivery boy was killed on King Street Toronto after Sydney Thomas drove a truck into him and fled. Thomas admitted driving the vehicle and was charged with manslaughter and remanded for further hearing. Merchant attended Parkdale Collegiate and was active in local church groups.
Mount Pleasant United Church, formerly Mount Pleasant Presbyterian, reopened after a devastating fire. Rev. James Little led reopening sermons with large crowds from Brampton Norval Cheltenham and nearby areas. An offering of 200 was collected as parishioners celebrate the rebuilt church along the Toronto Sarnia highway east of Norval.
Halton Trustees and Ratepayers Association protested a proposed township school board bill at Milton last Thursday. They urged amendments to make adoption optional for municipalities if the bill passes. J. A. Denyes was elected president with D. F. Ford and William Elliott as officers.

Bert Drago fined 300 dollars or two months for keeping liquor for sale at the King Edward Hotel New Year’s Eve. Georgetown assizes report two intoxication charges amid a hockey crowd. Witnesses testified about liquor sourcing from Milton and Georgetown fans, with no clear identification of suppliers.
