Milton's early growth and founding of churches
Halton's Paes of the Past notes Milton's rapid growth 1850 70 with strong local figures. It records the first council meeting July 4 1857 led by Mayor George Brown and Reeve John White, the laying of school and church foundations, and early parish efforts including the Auld Kirk and the 1852 Wesleyan and Anglican churches. A bottle hidden in the church wall yielded a 1855 congregation and a key Milton church offer by John Martin.
