Fire destroys resort barn and stock with losses in New York region
A large fire consumed a resort barn and stock, burning for hours into the night. Oliver, son of the owner, watched as horses, a stallion, 1100 picnic tables, 15 tons of straw and seven tons of hay were lost despite seven hose lines and water drawn from a nearby pond. Firefighters worked to save nearby outbuildings and a ticket office as flames spread through straw, with intense smoke delaying reentry and rescue efforts. Mrs Oliver and their two year old child were at a hospital for treatment the day before.
