P U C Inaugural Meeting Reviews Sewage Trial and Fees

Acton Public Utilities Commission held its first meeting under new mayor W. Cook and commissioners R. Everdell and F. G. Oakes. J. J. Glenart was named chairman with F. G. Oakes as vice chairman. committees were formed. water and sewer reports were discussed, including Beardmore sewage handling and plant efficiency, with several service installations and budgeted payments approved.

Public School Board Elects Chair and Sets 1968 Meeting Date

The Public School Board held its inaugural meeting on January 2 appointing S Adama and EG tye ee to the Acted Free Library board. Hradley was nominated as chairman for the year. Committees named include Finance J W Wolfe and TF Watson. Property M C Smith and CR Heard. Supply WE Mattocks. The secretary treasurer and attendance officers were appointed. The regular meeting date for 1968 is the first Thursday each month at 7:30 pm. A letter from the Badminton Club about the Robert Little school subitecium was acknowledged with fees and policy noted. Ex-chairman Wolfe expressed thanks for three years as chairman. Meeting adjourned at 6:38.

Earl Lambert Loses Fingers In Saw Mishap

Earl Lambert aged 32 of Brock Street Acton suffered a severe injury at McKenzies Lumber Mill while operating a rip saw. His left hand mid fingers were mangled and the centre two fingers at the first joint were removed at Guelph General Hospital.

Police Recover Goods From Forger in Ac ton

Corporal R Mason reports a check forger operated in Ac ton on December 23. A man bought from two hardware stores using forged checks, taking extra cash. Checks were issued for 30 and 20 dollars on January 7. Two parcels left at Thompson Motors before Christmas were found to be the purchaser’s goods from Symons hardware. owner identified and items returned. Investigation continues.

Ladies Tour Printing Plant Visit at Greenock Wisconsin

Greenock WI hosts a Ladies Tour of the Acton Frer Pres printing plant on a Wednesday afternoon. Dill Printing and Publishing editor in chief led the group through the operation, noting the various machines and their purposes. The visitors expressed amazement at the newspaper plant’s workflow and weekly publishing tasks.

Acton Legion Branch Installs New Officers

The Acton Legion Branch 197 installed 1988 officers at the Legion auditorium on Monday January 6. George Musselle chaired as president, with Hamilton Peal and Herbert Woods as vice presidents, Albert Irwin as sergeant at arms, and Jimmie Mane as the other officer. Roy Butler and Robert Lazenby were new members.

Woman in Fair Condition After Highway 7 Crash

A Woodbridge woman received two stitches for a head wound after her husband’s car lost control near Crewson's Corners on Highway 7 and crashed into a tree. Olga Palla was the driver. OPP officers Roy Hazlett and Dave Hardy investigated. Vehicle damage was about 600. The injury occurred around 1 43 p.m. Sunday.

Acton Welcomes New Year With Baby, Celebration, Snow

Acton marks New Year with twins born at Guelph General Hospital and a first baby of the year at Tourien General. A New Year Eve frolic at the Acton Legion draws about 40 people with Doris Hull orchestra. Folks watched Times Square on TV and welcomed fresh snow to start winter activities.

Acton January 6 Inaugural Meeting Seeks Two Year Term

Mayor W H Cook urged a two year term for the 1958 Acton council at the inaugural meeting. The session approved numerous motions including borrowing up to 138000 for current expenses, appointing planning board members, and reorganizing meeting nights. The council also addressed licensing renewal, staff salaries, and formation of a by law enforcement committee.
