Many-New-Races In Neighboring Townships Election Results
The Sunday election yielded several notable results across Erin, Esquesing, Eramosa, Chinguacousy, Caledon, Brampton and Guelph. Reeve and deputy positions changed hands in multiple townships while Brampton and Guelph saw decisive contests. Hydro by law and a $13,000 hydro debt were approved in Brampton. Guelph ousted long-time mayor R B Robson in a surprise result and elected a new slate of aldermen led by J. Frank and W Templeman among others. Guelph trustees and county-level seats also reflected shifts with strong showings for several incumbents and challengers.

Ice Storm Ushers Havoc Across District
One of the worst ice storms of the year visited the province on New Year’s Day, causing extensive damage to telephone and hydro lines estimated at 400,000 dollars. Widespread ice coated trees and shrubbery, with many fruit and shade trees broken or hopelessly damaged. Services were disrupted for days as lines and rural connections remained crippled and crews worked to restore the network before returning to normal operations.
