Organizers Mr and Mrs Bert Hinton say the town is organized for a general public TB clinic. Schools are closed and a mobile unit has visited industries. This week volunteer canvassers will visit homes to distribute testing cards for later clinic entry.
An Acton district man, Russell Almer Upshall, was hospitalized with head lacerations after a two car crash on 20 Sideroad at Wildewood. The collision with a car driven by David Lee of Georgetown left one vehicle in a ditch and another damaged. Total damage estimated at 2400 dollars.
Constable Bruce Kressler of the Acton OPP Detachment reports a theft at Masson Motors over the weekend. A tire and rim were stolen after suspects jacked up a used car in the lot. Discovery was made Monday morning.
Move to new offices on Mill Street in the former C. F. Leatherland space after renovations. The credit union now rents the old post office on Mill Street and will relocate before March 1.
A $200 damage collision occurred Wednesday of last week between Stewart Richardson of RR 1 Acton and Herbert McMenemy of Main St Rockwood on the Esquesing Nassagaweya Town Line.
A three hour Thursday session approved the budget as presented by finance chairman Hugh Patterson. The committee reviewed the summer playground program and the school ice carnival with part time recreation staff.
About 80 fathers and sons gathered at Knox Presbyterian Church for the Cub Father and Son banquet. Former Cubmasters Esther Taylor Murray Scayne Jessie Coles and current Cubmaster Mrs Earl Jordan reviewed Acton Cub movement from 1940. Also noted were missing leaders Rev Ray Costerus Eileen Wemsley and Ron Smith who led 1957 and whose Gilwell training marked the only fully trained Cubmaster. The event recalled early meetings in homes and the YMCA before the Scout Hall era.
Mayor Duby announced at the council meeting that Acton will buy a Sicard garbage packer for 7345 dollars plus tax to be mounted on a chassis yet to be purchased. The unit will compress garbage on the street and transfer it to the dump site with no loss en route, and may justify cost within a year or two through time savings.
Tuesday night Acton council approved two by laws replacing the old official plan map and creating the new plan and documents. The minister of municipal affairs must approve the plan after he suggested changes are incorporated by a separate by law. The clerk noted final ministerial approval could come within a week or two. The accompanying document includes a commitment to study any town expansion in light of sewage treatment capacity.
The board met at Knox church on Wednesday evening to outline yearly activities. Committees were appointed and projects studied. Plans include repainting entrance signs and providing waste receptacles on Mill Street.
Ontario redistribution plan renames the split Halton riding to Halton East and Halton West. The change stems from protests in the northern area as growth drives boundary shifts. The move increases the legislature to 117 seats with Halton split between Georgetown Gakville Milwaukee and adjacent municipalities forming the two new ridings.
