Odeon Theatre progress at Acton interior nearing completion
Real activity is visible inside the new Odeon Theatre in Acton. The front cutout under a temporary shelter is rising while offices heating units and wiring are installed. Cement flooring has been laid, lighting and sound systems installed, and stage constructions advance. The building is fireproof and curtains and seat coverings are fire resistant. Opening is tentatively expected within two months.

A group of 19 business and professional men organized the Rotary Club of Acton on February 7 with Haughton Laird guiding the efforts. They elected officers including Amos Mason president and W J Beatty vice president and planned to apply for Rotary International charter. The Oakville Rotary Club sponsors Acton and a charter ceremony will be conducted by District Governor Kenneth Smith with visiting Rotarians from local clubs.

Wool Combing Corporation and Local 2 of the United Textile Workers reach a wage agreement retroactive to January 1. The package raises average pay by 6 cents per hour, includes 4 cents new base rate, 2 cents for holidays and tenure scale, and moves overtime to a daily basis at time and a half. The clause allows reopening after six months if national cost of living changes.

At Lorne School on February 11 the Acton Junior Farmers held a well received program led by chair Mae Sprowle.
