Water heater inspector tale ends with a twist
Last week Acton O P P reported a housewife who was approached by a man posing as a water heater inspector. She alerted police but had no license information. He returned to the home and was later revealed to be the real inspector from Union Gas Hamilton, happy to identify himself. The incident spurred others to question unknown basement visitors as the local hydro commission does not send water heater inspectors.

Acton mural brings town history to life in library lobby
Acton’s past and present are captured in an 8 by 10 foot mural installed Sunday in the library lobby. Painted by Mrs. Joe Bray, the piece depicts early settlers, local industries, schools, churches, and landmarks with bright colors and a protective plastic finish. The work, funded in part by the Lions Club, honors the town’s centennial and will feature Ontario and Acton crests upon completion.

Guide Brownie Banquet Brims With Spirit and Goal
About 130 attended a Guide and Brownie Mother and Daughter banquet Tuesday evening in the Legion auditorium. Six Rangers in the new group wore uniforms funded by themselves. Mrs Ginger and Mrs Coombe led the leaders. Mrs Orval Chapman’s group presented a puppet show based on Guide laws on a doll sized stage. Mothers and girls sang camping favorites in a shared program.

Police were alerted Monday night at 10 p m to an attempted entry at Beardmore and Co pipe shop. Watchman Earl Viving found three men with faces cloaked. They fled on foot footprints followed to Crescent but lost. No theft reported.

Final readings on two bylaws to fund town sewage plant addition
At Tuesday council meeting final readings and passage of two by laws cleared the way for the plant expansion. Engineers have prepared plated plans for the addition with an estimated cost not to exceed 487000 dollars and tenders expected by February end.
