Reports from Acton area churches and societies include Rev Dr Kannawin of Toronto delivering a missionary address at Knox Church last Sunday and expressing pleasure to return. The Ladies Aid Society met at Mrs F Cleave’s with Miss E Hawthorne presiding and planned plans. Dublin branch Women’s Institute held euchre and dance at Legion Hall with about 50 members and friends. Dublin Orchestra provided music. VUFP O held a February meeting with Maple Leaf singing and readings. Pearl Foster chaired. program featured the Rock Parliament and National Anthem. lunch followed social time.

School Board in Monthly Session Endsorsements and Finances

The School Board met on Tuesday with Trustees Norton Buchanan Graham Pearen and Fraser present and J M McDonald presiding. A letter from Inspector Denyes on a school nurse was filed. An Education Association letter from Toronto sought permission for lectures during school hours. motion held that lectures must occur after hours if principal agrees. Finances Committee approved payments to George Tentry supplies A McMullen repairs Red Jacket Coal Co fuel and Canadian Pacific Railways freight. report adopted. Permission granted to place an electric incubator in the school basement for agriculture study.

Knox Guild Visited Georgetown On Monday February 5

Knox Guild visited Georgetown with Miss Margaret MacDougal welcoming members. A program featured piano solos, vocal selections, readings, talks on Sir William Wallace, and a Mizpah benediction followed by lunch.

Acton Rout Georgetown in Two Games to Secure Playoff Lead

Acton defeated Georgetown 11-3 on their home ice and then won 5-3 in a playoff lead securing series. Acton dominated the opener with multiple goals from Ainslie Walters Morton and Terry while Georgetown’s Cripps and Richardson fought hard through the second period. Georgetown, hampered by injuries and penalties, could not match Acton’s early pace and fell behind 6-2 after two frames, then 6-6 late before Acton pulled clear again.

Public Utilities Commission Discusses New Hydro Office

At the Public Utilities Commission meeting Commissioners Kerr King and Thetford discussed Hydro Convention details. Acton was urged to join the Ontario Municipal Electric Association. Plans were debated for a new commission office with options to use Murray Memorial Hall and to meet the Memorial Committee, with a motion to set an office funding path.

Serious Injuries From Tree Felling At Stewart Farm

Robert Carnochan suffered severe back and head injuries while felling trees at Mr Pred Stewart's farm on the town line. He was treated in Acton and then taken to Guelph hospital, where doctors found a broken back and a head wound requiring nine stitches. His condition remained critical as he recovered consciousness amid community gloom.
