Acton Blood Donor Clinic Draws 61 Volunteers
Acton hosted its fourth Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic last Wednesday with 73 donations from 61 volunteers. Across four clinics in Acton, 318 donors have contributed, averaging nearly 80 per clinic, with Dr. W. G. Cullen and a team of nurses and clerical staff organizing the drive. The Minor Hockey League opener saw Acton’s team lose 3 2 to Fergus at Hilleburg arena under Sonny Townsley.

Winter of 1943 44 Mild Weather Sets Record
The winter has been unusually mild with scarce snowfall and little sleighing. January barely brought snow while December had few cold days. Old folks recall no winter like this, contrasting with last year’s heavy snowfall. The mild spell reduces fuel worries and with no organized sports, people hope for continuation into spring.

The Acton Public Utilities Commission elected officers J R MacArthur as chairman and Reeve J M McDonald as vice chair, approved a pension scheme with the Municipal Hydro Electric Pension Plan, and planned retirements at sixty with credits based on service. Seed Display At Milton Draws Keen Local Interest
Seventy three lots of grain and seeds were shown at Milton Town Hall on Saturday January 2 with about 100 farmers attending. Halton Crop Improvement Association organized the event to connect farmers with seed sellers and those needing seed. A morning judging contest featured 27 youths in grain and seed, fruit vegetables and cream grading, led by Gordon Sealle Acton as top senior. Awards went to Fraser McNabb Georgetown and Ward Brownridge Georgetown among others, with the Halton Boys Soybean and Field Pea Club achievements also announced.
