Acton era town notes from faded 60s era chronicle
A sprawling ledger of Acton history touches on wartime austerity forecasts by Mayor Walter Cook, civic milestones like the first Rover Crew, and the curling rink roof collapse. It records community events, dignitaries, school openings, fires, public works, tragedies, and cultural happenings across decades, weaving names such as Amoe Mason, Bruce Kressler, Mary Heth Elliott, and Dr. A. J. Buchanan into a tapestry of local life.

1964 Orange parade soaked by steady downpour
In 1964 the Orange parade faced a steady downpour soaking 750 marchers. The town’s 100 year old Eugene Braida steel barn was torn down. A new high school addition emerged while Harris Roe, recreation director, oversaw council plans to acquire an industrial park. An arena received a new floor and school land was bought for $1 to build a new library. A Mill Main stop light was urged but rejected by the Department as school safety patrols began.
