Ottawa December 13. In the Commons Premier Mackenzie King defended the appointment of Vincent Massey as Canada’s envoy to Washington. He said the King’s approval, and Canadian British American backing, confirm Massey’s role as Canada’s representative in the United States, with the plan for a Canadian minister to stand in for the British ambassador abandoned years ago.
A seven year old boy in Georgetown accidentally shot and killed his sister aged 21, Jean Lamet, with a .22 rifle while her husband Thomas Comber prepared dinner. Coroner H A McColl ruled the death accidental. the gun had been borrowed from a friend.
A jail wedding was held in Milton as Dangelo, a Hamilton fruit dealer and Roman Catholic, wed Janet Blay Goodlet of Toronto with permission of the lieutenant governor. Sheriff Webster and county officials attended as witnesses. both spouses are described as mature with no prior marriages.
William Plank born 1854 in Wiltshire England died recently after long residence in Acton. He worked eighteen years as a traveler for W H Stevensons Canada Glove Co. Funeral followed burial at Fairview Cemetery with mourners including widow Mrs. Plank and daughter Barbara Dundalk.

Acton High School held its annual commencement at the Town Hall with Trustees Hartley Harrison George A Mann and Ebenezer Beswick presiding. Diplomas went to Clara Savage Olive Cooper Addie Hurst Jennie Wiggins Muriel Crossman Charles Kirkneks Neville Harrop Archie Kerr with Neville Harrop delivering the valedictory and Professor McKellar of Toronto University delivering an entertaining lecture on French Wit and Scotch Humor.
Fire destroyed a frame dwelling on Cameron Avenue Beardmore subdivision near ALM Pond Road yesterday morning. The fire started likely from an overheated stove pipe in the kitchen. Eight or ten neighboring frame houses were saved, while the destroyed home valued at 1100 dollars was partly insured and contents were a total loss.

Emma Hawthorne of Beardmore Cresc ent and Jock Wright were united in a June 1 1926 Dundas Highway collision case heard by Judge O Connell at Osgoolie Hall. Hawthorne received 659 plus costs. Wrights received 600 with costs on the supreme court scale. The Wrights counterclaim for 1200 was dismissed with costs.
The sixteenth Dominion Parliament was formally opened by Lord Willingdon in a grand ceremony on Parliament Hill. Rain aside, banners, gold regalia, and the Royal Salute marked the day with the Speech from the Throne read in English and French. Social events followed in the Senate and House of Commons with receptions for dignitaries and families.
Magistrate Mo presided as Brampton court fines were issued for liquor transport by Cologsto lo of Hamilton. He must forfeit a Nash six cylinder car and 50 gallons of alcohol. Toronto report says Rev. Dr. C H Huestis, formerly of Red Deer and Western Secretary, is appointed General Secretary in succession to Rev. Dr. W M Rochester who resigns to edit the Presbyterian Record. Huestis will likely move to Toronto to begin work at the year’s start. Also notes a dance on Friday December 17 costing one dollar per couple with lunch for ladies.
