Y's Men's Annual Party Brings Dinner Gifts and Dance

The Y's Men held their Christmas party in the Y.M.C.A. last Thursday with members and wives attending. A two fines master act added humor to the turkey dinner. Rev Dwight Engel spoke, introduced by Lorne Doberthi. G W McKenzie received an engraved gift.

Y's Men Hold Pleasant Christmas Party at Eden Mills

Decorations and gifts from the Free Press set a festive mood. Bug Copeland led a sing along with Mrs G W McKennie at the piano as A Warpiece orchestra played for dancing. The Ladies Auxiliary catered and Mr Engel urged members to take part in Christmas joy beyond ritual.

Robbery and Holiday Events Highlight Eden Mills Week

A Saturday morning burglary in Eden Mills saw entry into a home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ortleib and theft of items including a electric shaver. The town also hosted the annual Christmas party for Eden Mills and Eden Crest Institutes with a panel show, readings, and a Santa visit in Eden Mills Hall. A Sunday school concert at Eden Mills Presbyterian drew much excitement, with a community luncheon and distribution of buns. Several residents remain hospitalized, including Mrs. Bill McLean Sr, Mrs. Novell, and Mrs. Lottie Hevink.

Election Dec 19 In Rockwood Board Trustees Nomination

A second nomination meeting in Rockwood town hall lists six candidates for village board trustees: Mrs Jean Jolithe, Frank Kelso, Robert Leste, Kenmert Murray, H Andersard, and Murray Weirmire. Lestie Weirmier and Murray Murray qualified. one will be elected in the December 19 election. Earlier nominees Frank Schneider and Charles O’Brien were previously rejected.

Grants Reduce No Fee Boost at Night School

Education grants toward light school costs are reduced with no fee increases this Christmas. The Department now covers 64 percent of night school costs, down from 75 percent, and Acton high school board was difarmed last week. Unpaid committee members met to set mid term plans, with good attendance noted and a handbag door prize planned by George Bowman for the annual display night tickets to be sold by night school students.

Prizes and Tickets Highlight Parish Hall Fund Sale

A Saturday penny sale and euchre night in the parish hall raised funds for the Juvenile Orange Lodge. Numerous winners collected towels, cups, plants, toy kits, sweaters, dolls, and other items. door prize, vouchers, and a high score prize added to the evening’s tally.

Turkey Dinner and Projects Highlight Women’s Institute Meeting

The Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting at Mrs. T. Fines and Doris’s home with a bountiful turkey dinner. Mrs. Archibald presided, minutes and the financial statement were read, and bimonthly choruses were postponed. A rug making class started by Mrs. Fines and Mrs. R. Taylor drew good attendance.

Moore Accepts Call to Port Dover United Church

White Gift Service at United Church

Sunday School members quietly placed white gifts around a small crib during a White Gift Sunday service led by Rev. Dwight Engel. Over a hundred children attended with adults assisting. Mrs. Lidkes read the Christmas story and Ralph McKeown spoke, as the junior choir sang five carols.

The Knox Daughters of Knox held a December gathering at Mrs. Clifford Ashby’s home. Mrs. Kerwin McPhail led dinner arrangements, Mrs. Mary Masters directed a Christmas story worship service, and Mrs. William Spielvogel led the business session with reports from secretary Mrs. Herb Yrice and treasurer Mrs. William Toth.

Two silver baby cups with initials were given to two member mothers during the gift exchange. Miss Stevenson of the C.G.LT. invited members to attend the C.G.LT. Christmas vesper service at Knox Church on December 18, and the meeting closed with the benediction in unison.
