A promotional note invites shoppers to visit Guelph’s Christmas Store for diverse gifts for all ages. It urges early selections this week to avoid last minute rush and capture holiday dreams with wide counter to counter variety.
At the annual Halton County United Farmers meeting in Milton officers were chosen: Kent Don, N. Onbert, Hrante View-Prowl, Wy Dawson, Trafalgar Secre tary Treasurer J. Witwon Milton, M.A. fuampbell as County Director. A larger meeting is planned for January in Milton. Also notes on library purchases, a pastor’s death, and local concerts and marriages.
The electric railway introduces doubled service beginning Saturday with reduced fares to Toronto and return, offering quicker travel from Acton to Toronto, and potential future connections to Guelph and Parkdale. Officials tout improved convenience for commuters and a new hourly timetable between Lambton and Toronto with special student passes for late trips.
Officers for the Acton Hockey Club were elected to run a four team league in the Town Wall area on Thursday. President G. T. Hourdmore, Secretary-Treasurer J. Mrncker, Committee members McDonald Ryder and others were chosen. A financial report showed subscriptions and a grant. plans call for a four town league with players selected later by a committee.
Noted Canadian railway figure Sir Wither Magkensle of Toronto died Wednesday aged about Ty Yau rad. He was a partner of Sir Donald Mann and a prominent railway builder whose death follows a period of illness. Companions recalled his fierce industry and controversial alliances with Mann. His daughter Mrs W W Boardmore and other family members were mentioned in funeral discussions.
The Knex Church hosted a second unveiling of a charity picture show on Monday evening under the supervision of the Sunday School. The illustrated program proved engaging and instructive for the large audience.
The 1923 council meeting notes the Acton Machine Co tax exemption by law received third reading and passed. Finance items list payments to police, fire, street, town hall, and power commissions plus town matters on driveway access and garden drainage. A dispute over business tax levy remains under review and a garbage carting complaint prompted council action.
At a banquet tied to the Guelph Winter Fair, Hon. Lincoln Goldie, new Provincial Secretary, urged scrapping a planned public building project in the Yair area to make room for improved accommodation elsewhere in the city. He offered government sympathy but gave no firm details, hoping obstacles would be overcome. He rejected fears of Toronto influence and said Guelph must preserve its historic square from more derelict development.
The Township Hall in Medckville hosts a three week course on Agriculture Domestic Science and Sewing run by the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Hulton County Branch. Sessions begin January 7 and run to July 28 with lectures demonstrations in farm methods and home economics presented by Miss Evelyn Shortt and Mr W Trem?. open to women and men.
Laure prow of Guelph visited town on Monday. Miss Ut ta Dube was home this weekend. Miss Phulny enjoyed a week away in Toronto with friends. Miss Anna Lindway was away from Toronto for the weekend. Mr Angun Kennady returned from Toronto over the weekend. Mrs Maud McLulin visited in Hamilton with friends. Mrs Klump of Listowel spent a few days last week with Mr and Mrs Ree Johnston and Mrs Brnoat Nowe of Toronto visited her mother Mrs Sopatan Knox Avenue. Mr and Mrs WG Gamble of Era with Mrs Robert Johnston Knox Avenue visited Mr Te 1 Johnston during the week. Mrs Win. Turnshaw of Hockwood visited her daughter Mrs L. Jossetan. Mosars K Colow and Procloup stayed over the week at Ar Haovesw Blafr Ont where they netal fed a radio mat. Mr and Mrs J He Wallacy, Arlanos Margaret and Labelle Georgetown were guests of Mr and Mrs 10-4 Holmes on Sunday. Mrs Jamon J Anderson, who sprained her ankle a couple weeks ago, is able to move about now without crutch. Mr Thomas Blatham of Church Street, once ill, was reported improving yesterday. Miss Margaret Macdonald attended the opening of the One now th School at Coldwater last week. Mr EM Miothausen of Hanover died that week at his son Johns home in Kitchenar. Mr Dr J A McNiven, once sick, left for Florida for winter with daughter Miss Snabol accompanying.

Several cases involve theft of money and goods from employers, profane language, and criminal negligence. Remands and pending hearings follow magistrates’ meetings in Milton and Ottawa district courts.
Inland Revenue officers and police seized a large still and 280 gallons of mash during a Tuesday raid near Chathaw. Inspectors Moody and Heavely led the operation with other officers, detaining several suspects while pursuing the responsible party through nearby camps.
