Memorial service for Private Harold L. Simpson son of Mr and Mrs George Simpson Acton was held at the United Church led by Rev A W Fosbury. The sermon on I am the resurrection and the life stressed Christian hope and patriot duty in the fight against Nazism. Survivors and comrades remember his sacrifice and vow to keep faith with his memory.

Police Court in Milton Handles Varied Local Cases
In Milton yesterday afternoon Magistrate Langdon presided over five cases. Wilfred Fraser of Hanover received a suspended sentence and costs for bicycle theft near Acton. Jack Harris of Acton was fined and suspended for careless driving after a Georgetown accident. Warren O’Connor faced fines and towing costs for parking on the highway with truck rights. Albert Pepin of Guelph was fined for public drunkenness and given jail time. another Pepin charge involved liquor in a public space. Charles Meyers and Arnold Scott were remanded until September 6 on separate seduction and indecent acts charges.

Beardmore and Co tanneries celebrate a century in Acton with a community event attended by 1500 to 1600 people. AL Harvey praised local spirit as Col A O Beardmore and S G Bennett greeted employees with leather windbreakers. The afternoon featured races for all ages, band performances by the Toronto Concert Band, baseball between Toronto teams Simpson’s and York Arsenal, street entertainers, and a large catered supper served in under 32 minutes.
