Acton Ajax plant worker dies in electrocution
Robert Leavens an Ajax Engineers employee at Acton plant was electrocuted while operating a winch. The coroner’s jury ruled accidental death due to contact with a live power line and a door bar. Leavens, a longtime Acton resident, was not married and leaves several siblings and relatives in Ontario. Funeral services were held at the Johnstone and Rumsey Funeral Home with interment at Fairview Cemetery.

Wool Combing Corporation of Canada invites a candidate from Acton district for a three year technical course at the Provincial Institute of Textiles in Hamilton. A $1000 yearly scholarship funds nine months of study with summer plant experience. A new Blow Foundry at Acton has begun production, employing about eight workers with plans to expand. Located east of the CNR tracks beside Acton Machine Shops, it casts components for the local trade including Blow Punch Presses, aiding regional manufacturing.

Dutch Dairy Industry Faces Export Cost Challenge
In May the Dutch Minister of Agriculture stated the Netherlands cannot compete with Denmark and New Zealand on cost for butter exports. He urged milk producers to focus on cheese condensed milk and related products for which strong export returns are expected. Prince Philip also serves as the king's son in law and his aide de camp.

Acton welcomes the Blow Foundry a new industry started by Kenneth Blow owner of Acton Machine Shops. The plant built east of the CN.R. railway measures 75 by 40 feet with a cupola furnace electric crane elevator and core oven. Initially eight workers will be employed rising to about fourteen and it will cast for Blow presses Acton Machine Shops and external trade.
