Contestants and supporters push subscriptions to gain triple votes during a special Good Will Club competition. The standings list many named contestants led by Kath McPhedran Audrey Chalmers and A. H. Bishop among others with tallies shown, noting totals may not sum exactly.
Robert Kerr aged 77 of Fergus found guilty in police court of driving a motor car while intoxicated and reckless driving. He received seven days in jail and a six month suspension of his operator's permit. A man sixty years old was his companion.
Milton prepares for a provincial event with Hon. H.C. Mixon, Provincial Secretary, set as principal speaker at the gathering on the upcoming Tuesday in September.
Mrs. F. W. Babcock died suddenly Saturday morning in her 63rd year. Born in Esquesing Township she was a lifelong resident. Survived by husband Eunice and Francis at home. six siblings including William Thomas Edwin and Mrs. Wickins. Pallbearers listed: James Babcock Jack Landsborough Charles Landsborough Russell Dryden Prancia Ford William Anderson.
Public Hall Palermo hosts the Halton County Lord Nelson Essay awards on Friday August 27 at eight. Donor Mrs. Colin H Campbell will address Coronation in Westminster Abbey and Nelson Lloyds of London facts. Three winning essays read by authors. speech by Mrs. J A M Niven. music by Palermo Public School pupils. Inspector J M Denyes chairs.

Burlington and Milton battled to 7-6 with Burlington ousted after a late rally and a sudden death tiebreaker. Milton advances to face Acton in the finals with the first game set in Milton on Saturday.
The Acton fair, planned for September 21 and 22, titled Coronation Year Fair, will feature official opening by J A Carroll of the Ontario Fairs Association with Dr G Crittle and R J Kerr in attendance. A registration tent, Women’s Institutes displays, and a historic exhibit are planned. Marie's Animal Circus will perform three arena acts, a greasy pig catching event, M C A gymnasts, and an expanded prize schedule announced by F L Wright and Secretary Wright.
A missionary from Knox Church delivered a farewell message and social at the church before Miss Anderson sails from Vancouver on September 4 aboard the Empress of Japan. Friends extend best wishes for her continued success in Japan.
A Thursday night blaze at the Ontario Reformatory in Guelph destroyed a two story frame auxiliary store building. Prisoners and guards fought the fire for two hours until control was established with help from outside crews. The main store building and administration were spared with only minor damage to the connected facilities. losses are estimated between 60,000 and 75,000 dollars.
A lightning strike ignited a barn on Sealle Hughes’s farm near Brampton during a severe electrical storm. The fire destroyed the barn and hay, with damage estimated between 9000 and 3000 dollars, most insured. Seven pigs and a calf perished. neighbors and motorists formed a volunteer brigade while Cooksville Fire Department, hampered by water supply, fought the blaze with chemical extinguishers and confined the flames to the barn.
On August 11 1937 Bannockburn Women Institute neighbors and friends gathered at Miss Aileen Clarridge’s home in Acton Ontario to celebrate her upcoming marriage. Mrs W Wiley chaired the event as "The Maple Leaf" led, gifts were presented a 7 piece dinner set and table cloth were unveiled, and attendees sang For They Are Jolly Good Fellows over lunch and social time.

The St Andrew's Boys' Band from Galt performed a balanced all-brass program in Acton Arena on Sunday evening. Led by Mr B Ella, the 24 young musicians paraded in blue uniforms and capped shoes, with selections including March Filtaway and Bells in the Valley, followed by refreshments for attendees.
Premier Hepburn announced Ontario to hold a provincial general election on Wednesday October 6 with nomination day set for September 20. Art Nicolson of Acton was badly shook up when his motorcycle skidded and struck a car on the highway in Mount Forest while en route to Owen Sound to avoid a dog. He escaped with cuts bruises and the machine damaged.
A lightning strike on Friday hit Reeve Gordon's home in Nas sagaweya Township, a mule and a half south of Rockwood. The Mash came through the radio wire, scattering articles as smoke filled the room. No fire started, Mrs. Gordon and son Ross suffered nervous shock but recovered. Two cattle were later found dead in the pasture.
Halton County Council in Milton chose William Deans of Georgetown as County Clerk at a salary of 1000 dollars annually after approving By-law 698. The meeting also set by-laws to raise general and road levies and to fund county education costs across four townships.
Evelyn Muriel Johnson and William Roy Burns were married Saturday at the Parsonage in Elk Lake, Rev. J. W. Boyd officiating. The bride wore blue crepe with azures, attended by her sister Dorothy Johnson. the groom was supported by his brother Nick Burns. After the ceremony the couple departed for a motor trip to Kirkland and north, returning Monday evening for a reception at the bride’s parents’ home.
The Second Line has been registered in the Milton Registry Office as part of the provincial highway system. A patrol appointment is expected this week and initial work will widen culverts. The junction near Milton will be shaped into a highway curve with a north side farm field section used to form the curve.
Guards and police conducted a swift search for two Bernat inmates Mike Zebroski age 16 and Melvin Powell age 21 who escaped Thursday. Zebroski was found at his Hamilton home Saturday and Powell in Montreal the same day. both were returned to the Guelph institution.

Road and highway references frame a council meeting in Halton County. By laws 607 622 700 701 are read second time and third time under Warden chair. Appointments include Mr Deans as Secretary of the Old Age Pensions Board and Mothers Allowances. Council adjourns to meet on call of the Warden.
