Driver and Owner Fined After Mill and Main Collision
Two cars collided at Mill and Main Streets on a Saturday morning. Irvin Erb of Kitchener traveled east while Florence Evelyn Shuler drove Jon Lews car west. Shuler lacked a valid permit and had only occasional driving. In police court Magistrate McDonald fined Lew and Shuler $100 plus costs each. Shuler was charged with driving without a permit and Lew with permitting an unaccompanied driver.

Little tot burned as truck fires during repairs
Last evening while repairs were underway on a truck driven by Mr Herb McEachern a gasoline incident caused the machine to ignite and explode. In the truck sat three year old Mary Ann the daughter of the home who was severely burned on her arms legs and body before she was rescued. She received medical care and was taken to Sick Children’s Hospital in Toronto for treatment. All wish for her prompt recovery.

Stolen Car Recovered in Two Days at Goderich
A car stolen from Mr. C. V. Force’s residence on Bower Avenue was recovered in Goderich after two days. Soldier Pte. Wm. A. Rhodes, 21, "absent without leave" from Camp Borden, was arrested and charged with theft. Rhodes pleaded guilty to thefts in Toronto Acton Galt Goderich and theft of gasoline in Acton. He will face trial in Goderich this week and later on the local theft charge. Chief Harrop led the case including the Acton thefts.

Escaped Milton Prisoners Nabbed in Montreal
Roy Johnson Gerow and Reginald Hanlon, both in their early twenties, who escaped Milton jail fourteen days earlier by tying a blanket rope and climbing a twenty foot wall, are in custody in Montreal. Gerow was captured Sunday and Hanlon Monday at a recruiting station, while both were serving eighteen month theft sentences for gasoline from an Oakville service station.

Tragic Drowning of Campbellville Lad in Nassagaweya
Charlie Kyle eight year old son of Mr and Mrs F Kennedy of Campbellville Ont drowned in a pond on the Wallace King farm Saturday. Joan King cried for help as Kyle struggled and Mr King revived the body with artificial respiration until Dr E syerccot Milton arrived and pronounced him dead. The funeral was held Monday at Nassagaweysa Presbyterian Cemetery with Rev Mr Mustard officiating and floral tributes from family friends and neighbors. Kyle was a bright boy with a cheerful disposition leaving three brothers Norman Migcell and Jotn and many sad in the community.

War Service League reports funds and overseas cigarette ship
The War Service League reports administering 3684.83 since last October and salvaged 140.80 for the month. Acknowledgements from overseas servicemen note cigarette shipments. letters arrived from several, others sent cards, all appreciative of the smokes. Expenses of 14.49 approved. treasury down after box shipments. plans discussed to raise funds and adjust meeting day to Thursday August 27.

Big Barn Burned At Ballinafad Friday Night
Fire destroyed a large barn on Campbell Steen’s Ballinafad farm Friday night. The blaze consumed the hay crop grain four calves a bull harness and equipment. A crowd gathered including Acton residents while the cause remained unknown and nearby buildings were spared.

Six Soldiers Injured In Car Collision On Main Street West
Six soldiers from No. 24 Basic Training Centre Brampton were seriously injured when their car collided with a parked gravel truck on Main St. W. Four were taken to Peel Memorial Hospital Brampton, two to Chorley Park in Toronto. They suffered head and body injuries, cuts, bruises and shock.

August Meeting Approves Waterworks Fund Transfer
At the August commission meeting a transfer of 500 dollars from the Waterworks Department to the Corporation’s general account was approved. The Power Controller notified that after July 18 applications for power load increases of 2 percent or more require controller approval and specify usage and industry. A letter about multiple dwelling billing prompted no action. The Electrical Association reported no unemployment insurance ruling and that participation in the permanency plan was optional with a certificate. Water service extension to two Victoria Avenue lots awaits council approval. Accounts were approved for payment to Bell Telephone, H.E.P.C., C.N.R., Nortton Motors, and several suppliers, totaling modest sums. The Waterworks Department catalog also shows a payment to Canadian Brass Co. and others, with a final line listing Waterworks Department expenses.
