Mrs. Frank Jackson and Mr Reg of Detroit visited last week at the home of her mother Mrs. Smith and aunt Mrs. Irvine. Mr and Mrs C E Soper of Pronton called Monday at his father J Soper’s home.
Miss Marion E Day daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Day married LAC Milton G Greer of Kara at Rockwood United Church with Rev John Ward officiating. Reception at YWCA Guelph followed by wedding trip to eastern points. Guests came from Toronto Ottawa Kars Aylmer North Gower London Guelph Acton.
Zellara of the RC A F Training Centre in Guelph preached at Ebenezer United Church last Sunday morning. There will be no service next Sunday. The Heather Mission Band met in the church basement under Mrs John Robertson's leadership. Master Ross Wilson of Knatchbull had his tonsil removed at Guelph General Hospital. Minsea Shirley and Vivian Adama of Toronto are visiting cousin Mildred Wilkan of Knatchbull for holidays.
At the regular meeting the Nelson township council set the 1942 tax rate at 20 mills, a one mill cut from last year. A coroner’s jury ruled the death of Mrs. James Corrigan, a bride of two weeks, due to natural causes at the Queen’s hotel. The High School Board, in a special session, advertised for an agriculture and geography teacher noted for military service to replace J. M. Bates who resigned for R.C.A.P. duties. The Lions Club Carnival capped a record turnout over three nights, especially Saturday. Florence Van Duesen of Ottawa was committed to Milton jail after allegedly fleecing a local resident of $100. police caught her soon after the loss was discovered.

LAC Tom Goring and Harvey Gardner visit Mrs Millieres nephew. Arrowsmiths and Swackhamers host Civic Holiday guests. Numerous relatives from Michigan Carlisle Mitton Norval Toronto attend gatherings. Rebekah Lodge daughters meet at Mrs Win Mitchells. Webster family hosts over thirty guests. Shirley and Muriel Burt holiday with Mitchell family.
Fred Shaw assistant chief of the Oakville Fire Brigade was elected president of the Ontario Firemen's Association at the annual Thorold South convention. Dr Howard Savage joined NCAP as a light lieutenant of the Medical Corps. In a separate case Gordon Howard 16 of Church Street was fined 10 dollars plus costs for driving while impaired after an accident that fatally injured Miles Florence Wiron.
Miss Joan Hall of Hamilton spent the weekend with friends including Mrs Harvey Jestin and Mr and Mrs Charles McKeown in Acton and visited Mrs James Black on Sunday. Visitors to Miss Mary and Kate Reed included Rev John Stephens and Drayton’s Milas E Waters. Norman Barber hosted a Sunday gathering with Mr and Mrs Reed and others in Guelph. Norman McLeod of Centralia on leave at the Manse. Harvey Jestin of Niagara on the Lake home briefly with wife and family. Jack Weatherstone hospitalized Tuesday evening with hoped for recovery. T D McCutcheon attended the Fergus dam opening last Friday.

Mrs H Delmar and family stay two weeks with Dundalk relatives. Allan Barden suffers sudden illness at Guelph General Hospital. W Early and J D Lowrie visit aunt Miss Laura Aikens in Hamilton. Eleanor Coulson of Guelph visits Lloyd and Mrs Coulton.
Mrs Evelena Stull died at home in her 78th year after a lingering illness. The funeral was held at H C McClure’s George town home with burial in Glen Williams Cemetery. Rev W G C Thompson led the service as friends sent floral tributes and pallbearers were named. Local notes report a busy Georgetown sports and garden party day and various community updates including farming, travel, and fishing tidings.
Sergeant Pilot Walter Scott, recently back from England, spends time with his parents before resuming duties as an instructor. Mr W J Magill returns from several weeks away on the S B Aragon job on the Great Lakes after suffering facial burns from gas fumes and a hospital stay. Rh Hull suffers a car accident on Erin Ninth Line, confined to his room with multiple fractures and abrasions as the car crashes into the east end bridge rail.
Mrs Snoddy resigns from the Milton Public School staff and Miss Edna Black of Keian will replace her. A shower received honor for Minas Annan McPhail at Mrs Alex Moore's home. Messages note an airman winging from Uplands and a Milton engagement near Streetville.
Miss Marion Rennick and Miss Shirley Cox holiday with relatives in Hamilton and Toronto. Numerous visitors from Niagara Falls Guelph Hillsburg Acton and Kitchener gather for family time and a Women's Institute picnic. Calcium road coating announced to ease dust as residents enjoy races and a Roll Call Contest.

A Georgetown civic group formed the Active Service Tongue to organize the Civic Holiday celebrations with a broad committee and local organization support. A Georgetown Fall Party Board deputation urged Council to raise the usual $100 grant due to county cutbacks, noting Milton Fair’s higher grant and seeking parity for Georgetown with a grant of $125 to fund the fair.
Gertrude Manley known as WAAF No 1. She was the first WAAF recruit, first warrant officer, first administrator in the first DAA training camp, first drum major in the WAAF band, and composer of the first WAAF tune.
