Acton Ontario Story of its growth and heritage

Acton Ontario, Halton County, began as Danville then Adamsville before being named Acton in 1844 by postmaster Robert Swan. The town grew around a grist mill and tanning industry, with the Beardmore Company expanding leatherwork into a major local industry. The Grand Trunk Railway reached Acton in 1856, and The Free Press began in 1875. Churches, cemeteries, and community facilities developed as Acton evolved into a farming hub with rail links and growing industry.
