P U C Taps Reserve To Ease Heat Wave Water Shortage
Ontario's Public Utilities Commissioners urged action during a heat wave to bolster Acton's water supply by tapping into the Warren Grove well. A 50 gallon per minute flow from a fall-drilled well was brought online, with June usage exceeding six and a half million gallons and rising. A pump and copper line to the main were authorized for temporary use, pending Fergus maker guidance.

Accident kills Ray Parkhouse in Brantford area
Ray Parkhouse 20 teller with Bank of Nova Scotia and Douglas Foreman 21 of Bright died when Foreman’s car struck a truck on No 97 highway three miles northwest of Brantford. David Shearer 18 of Brigit survived in fair condition. Parkhouse had joined the local bank staff in October 1954 and was recently transferred to Toronto.

Two former Acton residents Jim McGeachie now of Toronto and Joe McCann son of a coal yard operator in Acton met in the parlor car while Jim was leaving Chicago and Joe was traveling from Vancouver.

The first annual Minor Sports Day at the Civic Holiday park drew well over 500 spectators. A Calithumpian parade, a full program of races and exhibition games followed by a dance and street entertainment showcased floats, costumes, and sports teams from Acton and nearby towns. Lightning Bolt Sets Cameron Street TV Ablaze at Noon
A bolt struck a Cameron Street home at noon causing a fire in a television set. Neighbor Charlie Waterhouse aided by extinguishing the blaze. The lightning may have followed wiring or hydrant lines and welded the fuse box like a torch.

Telephone Rate Increases For Acton Set In September 1955
Acton residents will see small rate increases on September 1 1955 as Bell Telephone raises two party residence and individual service charges by 10 and 15 cents respectively. The change follows Board of Transport Commissioners approval after Acton’s local telephone count grew beyond group limits. Acton now has 1113 telephones in the local calling area as of June 30 1955 and rates adjust with billing dates after 30 days notice. Three Fingers Lost After Farm Accident
Mrs Norman Armstrong of Acton Ontario lost seven fingers in a farm accident at her home Wednesday last week. An auger grain load was backed up and her fingers were caught between a pulley and rope. After treatment and many stitches she has three full fingers including a thumb. She is recovering in Guelph General Hospital.
