Hillsburg council passes a by law setting speed limit at 30 miles per hour in Hillsburg and Erin Township. It approves Bell Telephone system reconditioning in Erin Township and allocates funds for civic and relief expenses including funeral costs and road maintenance. Adjournment set for Hillsburg on August 21 at ten o'clock.

Fire devastates farm as barn and grain are ruined
Howard Stutt, farmer on the eighth line north of Georgetown, suffered about $10,000 in loss when a blaze destroyed his barn and most of the season's wheat. A threshing crew saved some implements, and only small insurance covered the damage. The fire spread to the residence roof but volunteers extinguished the flames. The well was emptied and the house took damage before the blaze was stopped.

Halton Crop Association Holds Four Area Field Meetings
The Halton Crop Improvement Association held four evening field meetings at farms in Nassagaweya Nelson Esquesing and near Guelph led by W. E. Brecken. Experts G McRostie H G Bell and J Laughland discussed crops soils and related topics. The program includes variety tests lime and fertilizer trials and rainfall records across four county points with about 500 small plots to be threshed at Ontario Agricultural College. A Halton soils survey by OAC will yield new soil data for farmers this winter and in coming months.

Bather at Fairy Lake Survives Deep Water Mishap Saturday
Mrs. Baldwin of Toronto, granddaughter of Mrs. James Snyder, entered Fairy Lake Beach and stepped into a shore hole. She sank and drowned sensed water, but Calvert Bowles rescued her. Miss Gilbert gave first aid and Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Ware transported her to her grandmother’s home. she recovered.

Car Somersaults Through Roof Near Acton
Four Acton young men escaped serious injury after a car rolled over several times and burst through the roof east of Acton near N Lindsay’s farm. Harold Harris drove the ten year old model owned by Bill Nolak with passengers John Chisholm and Frank Halmes Jr returning from Georgetown. Witnesses said rims struck the soft shoulder and loss of control followed. Chief McPherson investigated.

Acton Public Utilities Commission Meeting Actions
The Acton Public Utilities Commission met Thursday with Commissioner Hansen and Chairman Kerr present. A motion transferred 500 from the Waterworks operating account to the General Corporation account and approved payments to several suppliers totaling hundreds of dollars. The Ontario commission sent a winning Hydro slogan by M. J. Teller Whitby: Every day every hour finds good use for hydro power. Instructions were given to address arrears and discontinue services.

Body Found after Nine Month Hunt in Northern Lake
After a nine month search near Matthewsen Lake Watabeag two fishermen found the body of Erwin B. Wilson, mapping the sequence of the accident that claimed Wilson and Charles McDonald. Coroner Dr Smilley ruled accidental drowning as the cause with an inquest planned. Funeral services were held in Ansonville with Masonic rites. Wilson had just become principal of Ansonville school.

Backing Track Death of Rockwood Child
Six year old Dorothy Wildfong was killed in Rockwood when she ran behind a backing truck and was crushed by the rear wheels. Eyewitness Carl Wertzel said the driver moved slowly but could not avoid the child. The child was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Daniel Wilkdrong. Coroner Dr J P Mac Guelph and Traffic Officer H W Howell investigated. no inquest was required.

Acton Car Crash Damages Vehicle at Palgrave
Whale returning from a holiday near Wasaga Beach, Mr. and Mrs. Wm Ramsden and Billy of Buffalo New York, and Mr and Mrs W Mason, suffered a severe shake up when another motorist failed to stop from a side street at Palgrave and struck their car. The front was crushed and towed to Acton. No serious injuries reported.
