Teens hike 40 miles for Acton cancer fund fundraiser
Acton teens braved winds rain and cold on a 40 mile walk from Thornhill to Georgetown to raise funds for the cancer society. About 21 finished after 11 hours with earlier leaders Bob Turesz Mike Marchment and Jack Irwin crossing first around 6 p.m. The event organized by Project Action drew support from local residents and parents.

Resolutions From Council Endorsements And Approvals
The council approved general accounts of 8723.95 and payment No 5 for the Kerr Construction library contract 2078.77. It authorized 2636.99 for Mill Main signal lights and appointed L Duby and Ted Pratt as CORDA reps for 1967. A 347 CORDA levy was authorized. The levy remains eight cents per capita. The town endorsed Orangeville school building plans province wide and a standard teacher wage scale. It appealed a committee of adjustment front yard variance and objected to a front yard variance for a garage. May 14 20 was proclaimed Canadian Retarded Children's Week. It approved 800 for police office renovations, and the 1962 truck trade in. Thompson Motors won a half ton truck 1467.48 plus training. Fence material for Churchill Road North reservoir was purchased. A Tyler Hinton resolution was referred to committee for study. YMCA lease was referred for study.

Fire fighters rushed to Church St Acton last Wednesday after a false fire alarm. They searched similar addresses and names and continued investigation until the child who turned in the report was found.

Eight boys began from Toronto City Hall at 9 30 p m Friday night on a 60 mile hike from Yonge Street to Thornhill Acton and back. Gerry Ockenden and George Beshieri reached 54 miles before quitting at Silvercreek. others logged 35 to 54 miles despite rain and wind. Local support included a North Yonge Dairy Queen owner giving 35 cent ice cream and a Thornhill man supplying coffee thermos. Police offered encouragement with humor.
