Halton County Music Festival Returns Postwar

Halton County staged its first postwar music festival at Knox Presbyterian Church Milton after a four year break. Prizes went to solo and duet winners with urban and rural pupils competing, under adjudicator G Roy Fenwick of Toronto.

Acton Y's Men Visit Kitchener Anniversary

The Acton Y's Men's Club traveled by bus to Kitchener last Monday for the second anniversary of the K W Y's Men's Club. A joint parade with Guelph and other clubs preceded a chicken dinner and entertainment at the YMCA building with local and international officers in attendance.

Eleven Mile Strip Reopens After Grading Work

On Monday a power grader began to tear up the surface of Highway 25 Milton to Acton. Travel improves as deep holes are filling and the eleven mile trip becomes easier on vehicles and drivers. Traffic should stay under 30 mph. officials hope for a more permanent fix later this year to connect county north and south through the center.

Mission: Fields Experience Talk At Knox Church Meeting

Rev J M Anderson Jees spoke on mission field experiences during an evening meeting at Knox Church. Guest speaker recalled student ministry days with amusing incidents, followed by solos and a devotional lunch prepared by Mrs Musselle and committee. Thieves stole two gasoline engines and two electric motors from Erin Creamery display window, Auburn Wright owner.

Citizenship Service Held at Junior Farmers Gathering

Seventeen Halton County youths took the oath of allegiance and received Canadian citizenship certificates at Memorial Hall on the Ontario Agricultural College campus in Guelph. Judge Munro presented the certificates as part of a series of citizenship meetings run with the Ontario Junior Farmer Conference, with educators and local officials stressing duties and knowledge of government.

Halton Presbytery Elects Officers at Georgetown Meeting

The Halton Presbytery of the United Church of Canada met at Georgetown United Church on April 16. Rev. G. W. Porter was named chairman. Rev. Truax became secretary. Rev. R. C. Todd and Rev. R. R. Hare, along with H. F. Sanderson, were named conveners. Three resolutions urged stricter marriage health checks, civil marriage in the province, and better prevention of divorce, with higher missionary goals for 1947.

Acton Band Plans June Event With 18 Invited

At a joint meeting of the Acton Branch Canadian Legion and Acton Boys and Girls Band plans were set for a Band on June 21. The event aims to be a premier musical treat of the season with eighteen bands invited to participate.

A joint meeting of Acton Council and Public Utilities Commission appointed John McGeachle as Secretary-Treasurer at 1600 per year, with Miss de Walker as deputy. They discussed 600 foot water main extensions to begin next week and decided to finance through debentures when possible.

Friends and neighbors gathered at Cedarvale School on Monday evening April 14 to honor Mr. and Mrs. Burt James.
