Curtain Rises Lions Club Minstrels in three night run

Acton High School addition gains grant and costs
Trustees approved an eight room addition to Acton High School with a Municipal Works Association grant reducing costs by 18 878. Total project cost rises to 243 339 including fees. A future legislative grant may further ease taxpayer expense. The plan adds six classrooms a library and a lab.

Woman in Satisfactory Condition After CNR Train Crash
Acton woman Mrs. Sydney Palma was hospitalized at Guelph General in satisfactory condition after a car train collision at Mill Street CNR crossing. The diesel engine struck the car dragging it onto the pedestrian walk. witnesses said signals were operating and the whistle blown. The car suffered about $1,000 damage and several bystanders helped extricate the woman before ambulance arrival.

Car Rams Home Driver Flees Later Charged
A Malton man, R. J. Bloomfield, was charged with impaired and careless driving after his car rammed the Lambert home on Victoria Ave near Church St in Acton. The driver fled on foot but was caught after Mr. Lambert pursued him. residents and children inside the house were shaken as the vehicle pierced a bedroom window and damaged the residence.

Acton Fire Brigade Reports 1943 Activity and 1963 Plan
In 1943 the Acton Fire Brigade attended 23 rural fires and three focal Cres calls, with two false alarms and one mutual aid alarm. They logged eight swelling inspections, 17 commercial inspections, 22 home inspections, 23 drills, 10 mutual aid meets, 10 fire prevention meetings, 12 regular meetings, and 23 practices. Fire Chief Mick Holmes praised a active year and noted a top three nationwide finish for fire safety in towns 2 500 to 5 000. For 1964 they seek council support and continued public safety outreach.

Won Trip to Nassau Citizenship Prize Draw
Acton district couple James and Mrs McCulloch won Ledger’s IGA dry Saturday drawing. Their ticket was pulled from a large drum by Mayor L A Duby at the store. They will take a two week Nassau vacation this August at no cost unless they choose extras. The McCullochs have two sons aged 3 and 9 and this is their first big win. The weekly tickets had been entered since the drawing began. Mr McCulloch could not take the trip earlier due to work.
