High school boys will travel by school bus with Roterians for a Ford plant tour next Thursday afternoon. Acton Rotary club members met at the Dominion Hotel on Tuesday to discuss local civic matters including Easter seals and help for crippled children.
The Acton Minor Sports Association held its annual banquet with 150 players, managers, and guests. Trophies were awarded for senior Buzzards, intermediate Spitfires, and pee wee Hornets, plus the new John M Kentner memorial honor to Bill Johnstone.
The council approved the sewer extension by law and expected tenders to be called soon with work starting this fall. Health Department approval for sewer installations has been obtained as part of the decision.
Jets and church work themed films shown to St Alban’s Men’s Club members last Thursday. Highlights of Farnborough 1952 showcased Britain’s jet and turbo-propeller aircraft while other films depicted India missions and Joseph’s rise to power. A puppet color presentation of Joseph in Egypt received praise and planning for a minstrel-show committee was announced.
Acton Baptist Young People's Play finished third in the Guelph Association Drama Festival. Hillsburgh RYPU Stratford's entry won, with Cheltenham and Actor Young People's groups also showcased. Judges praised acting and staging though notes on limited character variety and setting were made.
An executive meeting discussed forming the High School Parents' Association. R Bean was named president of the group with Rasgett as vice president and Mrs W E Dawkins as secretary treasurer. Mrs Ho McEachern named as representative. Future plans were discussed.
Michigan born winds of hurricane force were forecast for Georgetown Acton and Million districts but the big blow did not occur. Residents expected gales and tornadoes as heavy rains and high winds drenched many centres. The hurricane path tracked west of Brampton and east of Guelph.
Acton council heard the 1953 town audit with a net deficit of 3349.62 dollars caused by expenditure overestimates. Waterworks posted a 6428.56 surplus, with 5924.69 transferred to general revenue. Hydro shows 4707.56 surplus but a 5769.88 power bill may yield a yearly deficit.
A well amended meeting of the Duke of Devonshire Chapter 10 CE was held at the home of Mr James Symon on Tuesday September 6. Donations were made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and to the Music Festival. Four new members joined the chapter and music lessons were offered. Mrs Korkness introduced the guest speaker Mrs Skuce who spoke on Are we paying too much for Four whistles.
This issue highlights mushrooms as a mysterious growth with popular taste in a Free Fresh feature on Page Three. A distinct mushroom farm provided the story and picture material for the feature.
A Sunday in Acton saw two misfortunes. A house fire on Hower Ave caused about $1,000 damage and one occupant was injured. firemen fought the blaze with roof access as smoke billowed. Earlier, a two-car collision on No 7 highway left a woman hospitalized with multiple injuries while another driver escaped unharmed.
The Public School Board approved Electro Vox Inc for a public ad system installation at the Stone School and accepted a painting bid. Board notes include staff changes with June Watkins and Douglas Davidson taking roles, Mary Ringler named kindergarten primary teacher, and Charles Heard’s resignation as music supervisor commended. Additional approvals cover furniture, desks, annual supplies, YMCA program pause, and March financials totaling 2 09707 dollars.
A St Albans minstrel group outlines ideas for a regional program with plans for fetes and parades. Members praise a recent performance by the Beampte Lee troupe and a Beampte Lee feature drew praise at Pocumivary Park.

Dun can Waldie recalls living 70 years on W H 4 and building a banner 33 years ago on a blistering April 4 when workers halted at 11 in the morning. He says last Sunday was windy and chilly, setting all time April lows, while horses and men were drenched in sweat and fatigue.
The Women’s Auxiliary of St Alban’s Church held a corporate communion on Passion Sunday with strong turnout. Rev Ralph Price reminded attendees to prepare for communion, followed by a sermon. The program included a showing of The Story of Ruth and reflections on faith and family life.
A report on a church gathering recalling missionary work in China under occupation. Mrs Helwig welcomed visiting members from Presbyterian United and Arghica congregations. Mrs Crapmar gave a devotional, prayers for world peace and missions were offered, musical numbers performed, and lunch served after the meeting.
The Acton Soccer Club led by President Matt Tyler plans a season in the Iveland division of the Southern Ontario Soccer League. Acton opens against Dundas Rangers in May at Dundas, with a strong squad to meet stiff opposition from nine other teams including Kitchener city and New Hamburg. A general meeting at the Canadian Legion hall sets the club’s practice start date.
YMCA committee outlined a season ending program from now to season end and a closing night program. The plan included dances calisthenics basketball choir singing races boxing jiu jitsu nursery display and five discussion groups. House teams will have basketball dodgeball and volleyball. summer program decisions were postponed.
