Acton Free Library Board Holds Annual Meeting
The Acton Free Library Board met in the secretary's office on Tuesday morning with A T Brown Rev C L Poole Rev P A Sawyer Mr John Cameron and secretary treasurer H N Farmer present. A new vacancy due to H P Moore's death was reported and Rev P A Sawyer will serve. Reeve Barber was absent due to illness. The board re elected Brown chairman and H N Farmer secretary treasurer. Sawyer and librarian Mrs R P Watson were named delegates to the Ontario Library Association. The Book Purchasing Committee was formed with Brown Poole Sawyer and Watson. Book spending capped at 250 and reference library work assigned to the committee. A plan to meet April 18 to handle old books was set. A Friday letter suggested restricting Saturday evenings for juvenile book borrowing to reduce library congestion. The board approved Saturday afternoon hours for one hour and authorized notices in The Acton Free Press and library door enforcement to align with hours.

Narrow Escape in Hay Wagon Accident Ends with Suspicious Driver Leaving
William Kee, 12, of Cooksville, escaped serious harm when a car rear collided with his father’s wagon on Centre Road. Kee leaped into a ditch as the wagon was struck, the driver drove off after a smashed windshield, and a horse later collapsed. Magistrate Palett heard, Philip Rihyl found guilty of assault with intent to do bodily harm, fined $50 and costs or three months. The incident stemmed from a March 27 brawl at George Mitrovitch’s boarding house in Cooksville involving Lawrence Horvat and Steve Gregos. Horvat claimed Gregos insulted him. Gregos said Horvat struck him and that Rihyl stabbed Gregos in the thigh. A counter-charge against Mitrovitch was dismissed. The Knox Presbyterian Players plan a May first-week production Oh Kay.

Ontario Commission Surplus Powers Bill Heard At Acton Session
At a fortnightly Ontario Commission session in Acton, commissioners reviewed a surplus power bill totaling 582.42 and a separate 612.29 interest from October. The total power cost stood at 24,516.84 with revenue 25,102.26, offset by applying the surplus to current month charges. A new switch was shown but installation was postponed.

Editor Injured In Car Crash East Of Cobourg
A. E. Dobbie editor and publisher of the News Argus Stirling escaped injury when his car struck a frozen rut four miles east of Cobourg late Sunday night. His wife was injured but aided by a passing motorist and taken to friends in Belleville. Their months-old baby escaped injury. Dobbie, a Limehouse native, trained in Georgetown and is well known locally.
