The Ontario Municipal Board approved dissolution of the Orton village effective April 3. Trustees argued administration and maintenance costs had grown burdensome. Erin and East Garafraxa townships will assume control of the community, which has existed for years with a population of about 58.
Kindergarten student Bert Post of 17 Mill St was struck by a car driven by Hendrik Kuiperij on Mill West near the laundromat at about 4 40 p m Wednesday. He suffered head and back bruises and lacerations, was examined by Dr Brian Moore, and sent to Guelph for X rays. Const Bruce MacArthur investigated.
The Legion John MacRae branch in Guelph inducted over 30 new members last Friday evening. Choraliers performed a lively program and have begun extra rehearsals to expand their repertoire for an Expo engagement this summer. A $50 donation followed the Guelph date to support Expo expenses.
Esquesing council and the committee of adjustment failed to agree on land separations for building houses. They considered slowing separations, debated rural versus urban status, and weighed limits like 20 000 sq ft lots and 1200 sq ft houses amid rising education taxes and concerns over growth in Halton.
The Acton Figure Skating Club staged its sixth annual carnival to an audience of over 800, a record at the centennial show. Nancy Skuce and Sally Wilson led planning with 75 children and nearly as many adults, praising costumes, cooperation, and all-local help.
Acton Chamber of Commerce plans mark Canada week with a centennial buffalo feast and an inaugural outdoor sportsmen shows weekend during the cen tennial year. John Shadbolt and John Roll explore menu and agricultural society ideas while Orval Chapman leads this year’s Citizen of the Year dinner preparations.
Officers of the Acton Detachment patrolled 752 miles and logged 200 hours from March 26 to April 1. One out-of-town person faced a liquor charge. Two motor vehicle crashes were investigated, including a pedestrian personal injury case and a two-vehicle property damage collision with an impaired driving charge. Seventeen charges and twenty warnings were issued under the Highway Traffic Act.
The Acton public school board disclosed at its Tuesday meeting that eight teachers will resign this year. Three depart from the M. Z. Bennett school and five from Robert Little. Names include K Heller Jo Anderson D Lerch from Bennett and Marlene Tiron Marian Gallaugher plus teachers Mary Beth Elliott Verity McIntosh Carol Pugsley from Little.
Herman Freuser's centennial hymn Hymn to Canada is published in sheet music by BMI Canada Limited Toronto and selling at Watson's Music store for sixty cents. Premiered at Robert Little school operetta sung by Diane Frank and Bob Kaul. Four part arrangement by George Elliott and transposed piano version underway for Expo Dominion Day weekend performances by the Legion Choraliers.
