Rev. Dr. T Albert Moore longtime Acton native and former Free Press editor died in Toronto. Born 1860 in Acton he began as a printer's devil, later rising to church leadership. he served as Moderator of the Canadian Methodist Church and later in the United Church, traveling widely and earning honors. He valued Acton, keeping its welfare in thought and work.

Nassagaweya appoints memorial plot caretaker and bids
Nassagaweya Township Council met April 1 with all members present. Bert Auliffe was named caretaker for the Memorial Plot for 1940. The township will call for tenders for 7 cords of wood and 3,000 yards of road material with bids due April 16 and delivery by September 30. Road liability insurance with A. F. Wilson Co. was renewed. Meeting adjourned to May 6.

Customs Receipts Set New Record at Acton This Year
Acton customs receipts for 1939 40 rose to 108 525 22, up from 94 658 61 last year and about 14 000 higher. The port, led by Customs Officer W G Middleton, handles large import shipments from Acton manufacturing plants to many points, with six year growth nearly doubling the earlier figure.

Acton Public Utilities Commission held a Tuesday meeting with Commissioners Symon Chalmers and Hansen in attendance. They approved payments to Hydro Department Northern Electric Sutherland Schultz and others totaling 338.78 and noted a 1.35 rebate from R M McDonald. The Town Auditors urged higher fidelity bonds for Miss Speight the treasurer, and two meters remain at Dominion Hotel for longer testing. Superintendent Wilson announced the arrival of the pipe pusher and a 1 per cent variation in meter readings during the test period.

Last Minute Rush Clears License Plates in Acton Depot
A weekend rush for 1940 motor vehicle license plates exhausted Acton Depot stock. J. K. Gardiner ordered a new supply that arrived Saturday without forms, delaying issuance until forms arrived. About 500 to 600 plates issued this year plus truck and trailer licenses. Acton may need at least 1000 more plates next year.
