Public summer activities include a Congregational church vacation and a Middlesex County farm bureau field demonstration.
President Wilson proclaims Red Cross week and orders nationwide committees to raise 100 million dollars. Local Bedford chapter reports on wartime relief efforts and the Liberty Loan campaign results led by Mrs. Henry D. Lyons, Sherman G. Riel, and Nathan H. Daniels, with contributions likely surpassing 7,004 pounds.
The Bedford grammar school held its graduation in the Assembly Hall on Thursday evening. The program featured marches led by Allison Mernard and Marjorie Beals, a school chorus, invocations, poems, songs including The Star Spangled Banner, and a reading of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Graduates listed include Francis MacNamee, Benjamin Jay, Perex Gray, Daniel Kelley, and others.
Miss Margaret Kelley and Miss Frances Whittaker graduated as Lexington High School held a ceremony last Wednesday. The program featured orchestral selections, an invocation by Rev George J L Thurlow, remarks from Lemuel H Marlin president of Boston University, and diploma presentations by Robert J Ryder of the school committee followed by a reception.
A group from town attended the benefit for the 9th Regiment held at the Boston Opera House on Thursday. Cardinal O Connell and Col. Logan spoke as the evening's speakers. John McCormack sang several selections. Miss Frances Whitaker hosted a gathering at her Main Street home Saturday evening.
John Shepley of Exeter spends summer with Frank Pierce in town. Frank Collins and family visit from Laconia. Robert Wenwright travels to York Harbor for summer. Mrs. B C Cornell of Boston visits daughter Mrs. George Shepherd. Red Cross subscription taken at moving pictures Saturday night. Ladies Missionary Society met at Trinity Church Thursday. Mrs. Woodsome and daughter Martha of Tampa visit Mrs. Ralph B Peters en route. Mrs. D C Garrett of Iowa City visiting son on Barretts Mill. An illustrated edition of the Concord Fire Department’s firemen’s standard circulates. Mrs. John E Lawrence and her mother return to Concord after visiting relatives in Flushing New York.
A. V. Galbraith shot an 87 10 77 for the 18 hole full handicap medal play and golf ball sweepstakes at Concord Country Club Saturday, defeating 10 rivals. Baldwin was second with a net score, Ballour had the second low gross at 100.
The Middlesex Fire Insurance Co. provides a room for Red Cross sewing at 9.30 each Friday starting this Friday. All Concord ladies are urged to attend and contribute to the sessions.

Mr and Mrs Celette Hall express gratitude for gifts from the Boys of 61 the Woman s Relief Corps No 62 and neighbors and friends in a June 20 1917 note from West Acton. The message calls the day a Golden Letter Day and reflects appreciation for the beautiful tokens received.
