Maynard Wm Billet works at the car tridge shop. Michael Nee and many residents visit Boston. New traffic signals will be posted by the selectmen soon. Several locals hold jobs from munition plants to pharmacies. Community events include church ember days, weddings, and charity bazaars.
Miss Augusta Myers and others visit Concord as friends gather in town. Ground breaks for Middlesex School dormitory with R L Wilson as contractor. Concord plans a second Christmas tree in Monument Square with Eve exercises. Fractious weather does not dampen Tak It In dance attendance. Kings Daughters host a successful apron and food sale in First Parish vestry. J Ward Carl elected captain of Concord High 1917 football team. Christmas carols rehearsed in town hall with many joining. American Revolution youth group holds a games and refreshments meeting in chapter house. Concord Junction pupils to sing carols at 5 pm Christmas eve. conveyances bring children from the Junction. Unitarian church vestry hosts Joseph K E Perry to discuss new income tax.
In West Acton, Christmas music attracts at three local churches as D H Hall recovers, the West Acton Tennis Club plans a Jan 1 dance, and Winona Rebekah lodge hosts a Christmas tree after the meeting. Maynard plans a Boston trip to Billy Sunday, and several from the village attend.
Concord Junction residents report marriages and visits including Myrtle Blodgett’s marriage to M Ki Oakes of Allston. Mrs J H Dakin recovers from a minor operation. Lena Coughlin visits from Lowell while Miss Bowker takes a two week teaching vacation. The 40 hours devotion opens at Help of Christians Church Christmas morning. Ronald McBlachern visits from Worcester. H H Dubois returns from Canada. Blodgett family moves to Northampton. A Forum in Concord features Denis A. McCarthy on The Faith of the Foreign-born in America.
Successful last year the community Christmas event returns with carol rehearsals on Sunday afternoon. The square tree will be lit at 5 15 and 7 15 next Sunday with carols sung. Carol singers will go through town by foot and wagon and residents are asked to place lit candles in windows. Concord columns carry fuller plans.
The Union church Men's club will meet next Friday in the vestry. James A. Burns of Cunard Steamship Co. will lecture on A Trip to Europe on a Modern Liner with ship illustrations. The open meeting aims for a large attendance and promises broad views on sea travel.
Joseph Albani recovers from injuries. Abigail Bacon of Bedford visits after a dance in Carlisle last Thursday. Local schools close early for annual activities. Dudley S. Peckman reports his valuable dog is missing. Mrs. Joseph Madden hosts Bedford relatives. Irene Goddard, formerly of Bedford, renews old acquaintances over the weekend. D of Concord holds meeting where Mrs. William B. spoke on old China. Sunday school class at St. Michael's Church resumes Saturday at 9 30 a.m.
Miss Ida M Cole eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Quincy A Cole wed Edgar H Willard formerly of California at her Fletcher Road home. Rev David C Or Cambridge officiated. Master Roger W J Lexington cousin rang the bell. Afterward guests showered the couple with roses and petals as they departed in a decorated automobile.
