White at Ottumwa: Democratic Prospect Bright for Governor
Ottumwa Iowa Sept 1 19 fore proceeding to discuss th e Uons at issue the time I may be potioned to say a few words ron fetning myself before the Dollar Rapids convention Inst syringhed for the slightest intention to again be candidate I resisted the ef fort is to nominate me until further resistance would have been unbecoming and unjustifiable. To receive a Glhanimous call from one's party to serve It in so conspicuous and honorable a capacity as is candidate for Governor is the honor coveted by the most eminent. I shall not underestimate the responsibilities of the governorship. My bid to give to the people the very service my talents will enable. I have been identified with the farming and milling interests and have lived in Iowa since 1865 owning farm property and business interests. I trust I may have gained knowledge useful if elected. The Democratic Party must defend popular rights and equal rights as it seeks to restore power and reform after decades in opposition.
