Defeat for Cornbelt seeks second telephone exchange
A special city election last Saturday rejected a franchise for a second local telephone exchange. Promoter W J Stanton of Waterloo lost by 141 to 8, as residents opposed duplicating lines and the costly expansion. Local service was criticized, but improvements were pledged to curry patron support. The piece notes other property moves and a home purchase, plus a council health note and a rail rate notice, and ends urging readers to check the subscription label.
