Death of George M Pullman Inevitable After Sudden Illness

George M Pullman president of the Pullman Palace Car Co died at 5 30 am at his home 1729 Prairie Ave Chicago after a period of malaise. He entertained friends Monday night and retired at 11 pm without complaints. News of the death spread quickly as workers paused operations and gathered at the Florence hotel. Mrs Pullman left New York for Chicago after receiving word.

Circumstances of Pullman Death Reported in Chicago

The statement by John S. Runnells, chief counsel of the Pullman Company, says Mr. Pullman died at five o clock in the morning of anemia pectoris after heat and exertion left him weak. He felt unwell, slept poorly, and planned to leave for New York, but died quickly as friends found him in distress and Dr. Billings could not revive him.
