The Ackley World Sees Mountain Folk And Moonshine
The column describes a mountain man living simply near Blue Ridge spurs. It notes his frugal life, oxen wagon trips to market, and reliance on corn for income and mountain dew and apple jack as needed. A Thanksgiving gift promotion and a Paris cake court case are also touched, with light social anecdotes.

German Barracks Uniforms and Pranks in a Fractured Parade
A collage of odds and ends from a historical page: discussion of German barrack life notes on five uniforms from summer linen to an emperor mobilization suit, then a tale of Small Robert seeking a bicycle but receiving a tricycle, followed by quick notes on earth’s rotation, a medical ad for DeWitt’s Witch Hazel, a Boston suburb merchant’s naming rights to pets, a punny exchange about absent minded professors, and various clipped quips from Siftings and other items. The piece blends military, science trivia, humor, and ads in a collage of short items.
