Nurse Viewed as Cold Machine After Death Incident

A friend recounts a hospital death where a young nurse mechanically followed orders and failed to close the deceased’s eyes, revealing how depersonalized care can appear. The tale contrasts with a sensational ad for No-to-bae, a tobacco habit cure, touting its safety and universal availability.

Central Asian Deserts Unwelcoming Yet Revealing In Tibet Trek

Mr. W. Woodville Rockhill details a harsh crossing of the Central Asian plateau in Century. He notes lifeless landscapes with no trees or flowers except briefly, harsh winds and dust, brackish valleys, and wild yaks and antelopes as rare signs of life. Memories of a Happy Life in Wis No Uve Counteys

Excerpts from Marianne North’s observations recount humorous missteps of Turkish hosts, odd customs, and social quirks. A pasha’s breakfast on a ground cloth, a portrait that isn’t the one, and a box for a joke fill a playful chapter about worldliness and vanity.
