A Christmas Dinner in Constantinople
Mrs. Laffan-Hanly hosts a cross national Christmas dinner for fifty in Constantinople with guests from Greek, Persian, Turkish, French, Armenian, Russian, English, American, Spanish, Hebrew, German, Italian, Albanian and Japanese backgrounds. The feast features British roast beef, giant turkeys, mince pies, and wines, but social mingling fails as language barriers persist, and the event ends with a playful round of impromptu games and a bow to cultural distance.
